I found that if I just got out and walked, my weight went down. Little changes that become your normal routine will work better than an exercise regimen. (Not to mention it's easier to get myself to haul my carcass about if I "reward" myself by picking up a coffee on the way home than by doing reps of...just about anything.)

Eating more frequent, smaller meals helps also.

I would definitely be interested in that video. I would like to do some sort of exercise but with Luke it's just much easier (and cheaper) to do something at home. I have a cheesy dance video I use to workout to but it didn't seem to have much effect.

Shoot me an e-mail about the video - maybe I can just buy one of my own if it's not too much - mindy at griddlebandits dot com.

Thanks for the tips, Kim! I didn't know that about high fructose corn syrup. Is that what they put in with canned fruit?

Watching the drinks shouldn't be a problem. I mostly just drink coffee, water, and 100% juice (watered down cuz it's too sweet for me). I definitely need to drink more water though!

ohhh yeah,

if you're interested, after i lost Jorai, i found a core workout video on the web...it killed me. but it was super easy and only was 15 minutes a day. i think if i could have stuck with it, it could have toned my tummy up. you use a ball. if you want it, i could see if i could burn it to a dvd, or i could just take screen shots of the video and explain how to do the exercise and how many reps ya do...let me know.

try to up your meals and make your portions smaller. if you can eat 6 times a day (3 meals and 3 snacks) that will boost your metabolism. also, try simple exercises like, instead of picking up the phone to call a work mate, walk to their office, take the stairs or the longer route to your car (park farther away from the door!). also, if you like chocolate, eat dark instead of milk. not only does it curb your chocolate craving faster, there's less sugar.

one of the best things you can cut out of your diet is high fructose corn syrup...it's in most all your convenience foods...but it packs on the calories plus has been found to be a major contributor to type 2 diabetes. hydrogenated oils are bad too...but if your watching your weight...watch out for high fructose.

when i'm craving sugar, i eat sugar cereal...it does add to your calories, but it's better than ice cream, which is my biggest downfall!

portions are huge though...small meals at least 6 times a day. you'll be hungry more often, but you'll be digesting faster and increasing your metabolism. ohh...and watch your drinks. you'll be amazed how many calories you'll consume just by drinking. try to drink more water!

Vicki, I'm totally up for that! I love the dream dinner idea but yeah, the cost is probably more and I would have to get a sitter. So doing it at home (yours or mine) would be so much better. Let's get together and do some brainstorming. We're overdue for a coffee break anyway!

Let's you and I get together like once or twice a month and make freezer meals! We're each making "dinner for two", technically. We could just make HUGE meals, split and freeze them. It's like Dream Dinners but without the fancy kitchen... What do you think? My first idea was to get together and exercise, but I hate exercising...which, combined with my love for fried foods and anything chocolate has become a bit of a problem...

Good idea! I do love shrimp. Sometimes if I'm craving something sweet I'll eat jello or sugar free pudding. Usually it doesn't take much to curb the craving with foods like that. Ice cream is one thing I'll for sure go overboard with so it's good if I just don't keep it around.

That is tough--nothing like carrying some extra pounds to make me feel just a little down about everything. Do you have things that you can binge on that aren't high calorie? This sounds weird but I love shrimp and I'll keep a bag of frozen shrimp in the freezer with a bottle of cocktail sauce because I can eat a bunch of those and not kill myself with guilt.
