Gait Training
I started going to physical therapy a few weeks ago to help with my balance and walking. They call it gait training. They had me do some physical challenges at the start and based on my performance they graded me as a fall risk, but only just barely. At that point I had already improved quite a bit. The MS is obviously in remission. I just wonder how I would have scored when I had the baby. It has changed so much. And therapy is helping, I’m sure of it. The exercises they are giving me are getting steadily easier and overall my walking is noticeably better (at least that’s what my husband says, and he wouldn’t lie to me. Not even to spare my feelings!). I have lost a lot of strength in my legs and hips but with therapy they are getting stronger – slowly. It’s amazing how quickly you can lose muscle strength and it’s amazing how crucial those muscles are in keeping your balance. So bottom line, I plan on getting ripped so I can kick this MS gait and balance problem to the curb.
On a different note, I’m having some more trouble with my vision. Most days it’s tolerable, but other days it’s like the room is spinning. I just can’t focus on anything and bring the two images together. It’s not exactly like the third nerve palsy I experienced five years ago (which is what they believe was the first exacerbation and the start of the MS). I don’t know, it’s either double vision again or a serious (yet fluctuating) need for a new eyeglass prescription. I have an appointment scheduled with my ophthalmologist, so we’ll see what he says about it. Hopefully it just clears up on it’s own. Quickly. Preferably before I go back to work.

I don’t know if this will help at all, but I had a lot of vision problems after I had Nolan. I don’t know if it was a hormone thing, or if I wasn’t taking good enough care of myself, but it did eventually clear up. Yours may be caused by something totally different, but I was having all kinds of room spinning, and trouble with my eyes focusing. I did seem to take about 4-6 months to totally go away.

That thought has occurred to me because I know pregnancy can mess with your vision. I’ve heard of it changing your prescription and I think my doctor actually mentioned it once, so I’m really hoping that’s what it is.
