Peter Principle
I’m watching Undercover Boss, an interesting program on CBS. This particular episode is about White Castle. Not surprisingly, White Castle has issues. The issues the owner is seeing while he’s working undercover remind me of a philosophy I once read about: The Peter Principle. An interesting concept that began as humorous treatise, I actually think it has quite a bit of truth to it.
You can read a bit more about it here:
Peter Principle: It holds that in a hierarchy, members are promoted so long as they work competently. Sooner or later they are promoted to a position at which they are no longer competent (their “level of incompetence”), and there they remain, being unable to earn further promotions.
